David Franks, PGA - Director of Instruction

David co-founded the Calabasas Golf Academy in 2015. He has been a Class A PGA Professional since 2009. He is FlightScope and TrackMan Certified. He is also Hank Haney Certified. David graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a Bachelor’s in Marketing and PGA Golf Management.

David has been playing golf for thirty years. He has over fifteen years of teaching experience, including six years at The Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs and five years at GolfTEC in Woodland Hills. In that time, he has taught over ten thousand golf lessons to players of all ability levels, ages, and backgrounds.

David enjoys pursuing the highest level of his own game and competitive golf on local mini tours and in professional events. He loves to travel and play with aspirations of playing at the PGA Tour level.

Casey Lum, Lead Instructor

Casey is a PGA Apprentice and a Hank Haney certified Instructor. He joined the Calabasas Golf Academy team in 2017. He is also Eyleline Tour Roll and 4 Putting Elements certified.  Casey Has a Marketing Communications degree at California Lutheran University.

His passion for the game of golf started when his dad taught him the game at an early age. In high school, he played for 4 years on the Varsity team.  After high school, he had aspirations to play golf collegiately. He worked on his game under former PGA Tour Professionals Bob E. Smith and Rodger Gunn while playing for Ventura College. He earned most improved player his Freshman year and the Coaches Award his Sophomore year.  He then transferred to California Lutheran University earning first team all- league Honors his senior year while leading his team to the NCAA championship.

Casey has taught thousands of lessons to all ages and abilities while being employed at Sierra Star in Mammoth Lakes, CA. He enjoys working hard on his game and playing competitively.

Carl Smith, Golf Performance Coach

Carl Smith is a dedicated Golf Performance Coach with a diverse background in golf. His experience includes an NCAA Division I College Golf Coach, PGA Tour Caddie, playing professional golf, assistant golf professional, and collegiate student-athlete.

Carl graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. As a member of the golf team he was a 3-time All-West Coast Conference Team selection.  After college he turned professional playing in events around the country.  He spent the next year as an assistant professional where he began his career as a coach and teaching instructor.   

In 2011 he was hired as the Assistant Coach at Pepperdine University.  In four seasons as the assistant coach, Carl helped guide his team to a WCC Conference Championship.  His recruiting classes went on to produce NCAA All-Americans and multiple NCAA Championship appearances.   

In 2015 Carl had the unique opportunity to caddie on the PGA Tour.  He caddied for Cameron Tringale for the next four seasons. Their time together produced two 2nd place finishes and a year end FedEx Cup ranking of 36th. Highlights include playing in the Masters, US Open, British Open and PGA Championship.  

During his time on tour he learned from the best coaches and players in the world and uses that experience to help his players in all areas of their game.

Timothy Galvan, Player Development Specialist

Timothy Galvan has been playing golf for over 30 years. He attended and graduated Hawaii Pacific University on a golf scholarship in 2009. While there, he took on a leadership role as the Head Coach for the University’s men’s team. While attending school Timothy worked for the K’oalau Golf Course as an Assistant Professional. He gained experience in course management and all things operations; K’oalau is also where he began his teaching career. Timothy turned professional after graduating college in 2009 and has competed on tours all over the world. In 2015 Timothy shifted his focus to player development and private coaching. He has focused on cultivating a high-end clientele base and turning weekend golfers into confident athletes. He helps people take their love for golf and become the best golfer that they can be. Timothy is excited to be a part of the Calabasas Country Club team as their Player Development Specialist. He brings with him over a decade of experience and a lifetime of passion, with a hunger to create lasting experiences.
